January 2023 Wrap Up

January 31, 2023January 31, 2023 Sarah

I don't know what it is, but I've been struggling to get into books this month. Who knows, maybe it's all my other hobbies taking up my time right now? Hopefully next month will be better. Trying something new here for this section - there are always so many books on my plate that it… Continue reading January 2023 Wrap Up

2022 Year in Books

December 30, 2022January 1, 2023 Sarah

This year was better than the last, but still a far cry from my usual 50+ books. Here's to next year! A few fun facts from the year: I got back into YA a little bit reading four young adult titles (all fiction). I'm still reading mostly straight white women, but this year read a… Continue reading 2022 Year in Books

November 2022 Wrap Up

November 30, 2022December 4, 2022 Sarah

This month I had hoped to continue my strong reading from October but alas it was not to be. It was an incredibly busy month - my husband ran in the World's Toughest Mudder down on the Gulf and then we spent time in New Orleans, which was immediately followed by holiday prep at the… Continue reading November 2022 Wrap Up

October 2022 Wrap Up

November 1, 2022December 4, 2022 Sarah

I'm back! It's so nice to be back in the swing of things, writing reviews, talking books. There has been much that has happened this month but I'll save all of that for a Diary of a Bookseller post next week. For this month, we'll just stick with what I've read and what I've written!… Continue reading October 2022 Wrap Up

March 2022 Wrap Up

March 31, 2022October 28, 2022 Sarah

This one is kind of another doozy - I get manuscripts from St. Martin's, which is super exciting, but also means that this is a month, once again, with books that won't be out for at least six months, and one for almost a year. But start thinking about them now because I promise, they… Continue reading March 2022 Wrap Up

February 2022 Wrap Up

February 28, 2022December 3, 2022 Sarah

So I don't read during the Olympics, I just binge watch the Olympics, but I'm glad to now be at the point where I'm solely reading ahead, so add this month's books to your TBR! Links are to the books' pages on The StoryGraph! Books Read in February Corrections in Ink by Keri Blakinger (nonfiction… Continue reading February 2022 Wrap Up

January 2022 Wrap Up

January 31, 2022December 3, 2022 Sarah

While in real life my year started off incredibly poorly, my reading year started with a bang - 3 books in the first week of the year alone - I think it might be a non-vacation week record! Quite a few of the books that I finished come out later this year (or have sequels… Continue reading January 2022 Wrap Up

2021 Year in Books

December 31, 2021October 28, 2022 Sarah

Welp, I had my worst reading year since 2014, just a paltry 34 books read. Since 2015 I've read over 50 books a year. But it's been a hell of a year. From a cancer scare for me to multiple family deaths, well, I'll be happy to see this year in the rearview mirror. Total… Continue reading 2021 Year in Books

2020 Year in Books

December 31, 2020October 28, 2022 Sarah

Well, I barely made it, but I read my 52 books for the year (not including the hundreds I "blurb" read, but these are the ones I really read.) This year that included a couple of surprises and also reaffirmed that I need to vary my reading particularly when it comes from reading books by… Continue reading 2020 Year in Books

Who I Am & What I Do

Hello and welcome to Celebration of Books! I’m Sarah, a thirty-something bookstore community outreach liaison at an independent bookstore in the Philadelphia suburbs. I love my job, I love books, and I hope you’ll find a book or two here that you’ll enjoy as well!

My sister, Laura, also contributes reviews from time to time so you’ll see her as the author of some reviews, or occasionally a post with reviews from us both! We also have other guest authors or reviews from our friends as well!

Going to be doing something new in the next few months - baking my way through books! I've been watching countless episodes of @bingingwithbabish and have decided I want to do a book version! We'll see how it goes and probably won't have videos, but stay tuned! Going to start with @bakingfiction 's The Little Library Cookbook for inspiration!
Just chillin' at my favorite local brewery @rootdownbrewing with my upcoming book club book, The Lamplighters by Emma Stonex having my own little @silentbookclub!
Sometimes you're not a fan of your own country's cover of one of your favorite books so you have to get creative! This is the UK cover and I think it fits the story so well! I read Lessons in Chemistry by @bonnie_garmus_author back in September, pre-cover, and absolutely loved it! It's finally coming out on Tuesday so the review is up on the blog (link in bio and stories!) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5!
Today's review is for @kathleenwestwrites 's Home or Away which is out on Tuesday! When I came across the listing for Home or Away back in September when I was doing spring buying at the book store I manage, I pestered our sales rep CONSTANTLY until I got an advance copy (those who have followed me for awhile know those are my hockey skates in the photo) and I am so excited to finally be able to talk about it with fellow readers! ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5, link in stories and bio!
Up on the blog today, my review of @historyschmistory 's The Disappearing Spoon which we read in Nonfiction Book Club last year! ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 / 5
On the blog today, my review for the final book in @stephenfryactually 's Mythos trilogy! I enjoyed all three immensely and listened to the audiobooks for each, read by Stephen himself! Link in bio for the full review! @chroniclebooks
